Behind the Bars Interactive Evening Tours

Behind the Bars Interactive Evening Tours are returning to the Huron Historic Gaol in Goderich this summer! Visit us every Tuesday and Thursday evening from July 5th until August 25th, from 7pm to 9pm. Meet with reenactors portraying real inmates and staff from the Gaol's past! Behind the Bars is a self-guided tour, where guests will learn about life at the Gaol from long time matron Mrs. Margaret Dickson, and Turnkey Robert Henderson. Meet Dr. Shannon, the surgeon who worked on-call at the Gaol for almost 20 years. Hear the story of James Donnelly, accused of squatting on Canada Company land, who turned himself in on the charge of murder. Talk to Phoebe, a young employee at the Union Hotel in Stratford, committed for leaving service without permission. Find out how one woman escaped from the London Asylum, and hear the story of another who spent one day at the gaol for drunkenness. Plan your escape route over the Gaol walls! Event: Fanshawe Frolic Dance Weekend: The Victory Bond Ball

When: July 30-31, 2016 

Description: The whole Village is turning out to support this “Dance to Victory” First World War event. Join us as we celebrate the Canadians spirit on the Homefront during the last years of the First World War when campaigns and events were held to sell Victory Bonds. These were the days of rousing marches and one steps, waltzes and even the daring tango! Period costumes are encouraged but not required, no previous dance experience required. At the Saturday workshops, Dance Mistress and Historian, Mme. Cathy Stephens will teach you all the basic and simple steps you need to know to be able to do all the dances at the ball. Join us afterwards at the village for a country supper followed by dancing to authentic dance music of the era. Sunday there is more fun at the Family Frolic featuring period music and simple dances that are fun for the whole family, followed by afternoon tea at the Tavern.

Cost: Tickets for the whole weekend are $50. plus HST per person. That includes a 2 day pass to the Village, 2 dance workshops, a full country supper, the evening ball and the Family Frolic informal dance and tea on Sunday*. *Admission to the Family Frolic and tea alone is covered by the $7. admission fee to the Village on Sunday. The loudest ticket in town goes on sale this Friday – May 6th as Airshow London advance sales begin.

Airshow London is set to fill the skies September 17 and 18th. Canada’s CF18s will prove their reputation for outstanding versatility in delivering solid fighter and attack abilities and joining them on the tarmac and in the air are the F-22 Raptors, direct from Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. The Canadians will be standing on guard for the entire weekend. The Snowbirds precision team commands a crowd’s undivided attention and the Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team – The Skyhawks has all eyes looking up and hearts beating fast.
The T-33 brings the early era of jet fighters to the forefront and spectators won’t believe the speed and agility of London’s own - Pete McLeod’s Edge 540. Pete competes around the world as part of the Red Bull racing team.
Ground displays will feature interactive fun for everyone and a chance to get up close and personal with pilots and crew.

Light The Night Walk

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada’s Light The Night Walk October 15th, 2016 in Victoria Park The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada’s 5th Annual Light the Night Anniversary Walk in London, Ontario. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) is Canada’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services. Each year, in communities across Canada, teams of families, friends, co-workers come together to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s (LLSC) Light The Night Walks and bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers and their families, and survivors. Light The Night Walks are evenings filled with inspiration. During this leisurely walk, families and friends gather in select sites across Canada as thousands of walkers carry illuminated lanterns showcasing their relation to the cause; a white lantern for blood cancer patients and survivors, a red one to walk as a supporter and a gold one in memory of a loved one lost.
