Although Fischer Spooner is widely known as an elaborate performance art troupe, the group's music more than holds up on its own. Spiking extremely retro electro-pop tendencies (recalling Kraftwerk, early Depeche Mode, and Gary Numan) with a modern approach to programming, Fischer Spooner produces a quirky, robotic, and strangely subdued kind of dance music on this excellent self-titled debut. Especially catchy is the smash club single "Emerge."
