Album Review

K-Tel's Back to Back series is in theory a pretty good idea. Take two bands or artists, select their five best songs, and end up with two mini-"best of" collections on one disc. In practice, the series often falls flat due to an incongruous pairing of artists, or in the case of the Kim Carnes/Juice Newton collection, the pairing makes sense and the tracks are all originals. They are also perfect for this treatment because neither singer had more than a handful of hits, all of which are here, like Newton's "Queen of Hearts," "Angel of the Morning," and "Break It to Me Gently" and Carnes' "Bette Davis' Eyes," "Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer," and "More Love." If you are big fan of either singer, you will want a collection that delivers more tracks, but for the casual fan of either or both, this collection may be all you need.
