Album Review

Blues Anthology combines three previously released albums (Cryin' the Blues, Screamin' the Blues, and Discoverin' the Blues) in one package, and while there is a wide range of styles and approaches to the blues and its offshoots represented, ranging from Mississippi Fred McDowell's elegant Delta-styled acoustic slide playing to King Curtis' uptown and sax-fueled take on R&B, what isn't made clear is that everything collected on these three albums is a live performance, which means the sound and feel are all over the map.
