Catholic Board School Trustees Reject Liberal Deal

The London District Catholic school board has voted to reject a deal negotiated by the Education Ministry.

As you recall, Premier Dalton McGuinty put pressure on teachers to agree to a deal that would freeze wages and get rid of their sick day benefits.

Board Chair, Phil Squire tells Newstalk 1290's.

"The trustees have never signed the agreement or agreed to its terms so now we are just continuing the negotiation process, to try to now reach a negotiation with our union. So the government wants us to agree to their deal and trustees are not prepared to do that so we are just moving ahead."

Squire says he is confident that they can come to an agreement before September 4th when school starts.

He added the Liberals hve somewhat blown this out of proportion.

"Well it's a situation that has been really ramped up and been made more difficult by the actions of the government. They really created this sense of crisis that I really didn't think there needed to be, so now they have to deal with it."

However, Premier Dalton McGuinty isnt happy about it and says if he has to he will recall the legislature to impose new contracts, he will.
